Tesla Museum
By Anonymous Expat
I recently went to the Nikola Tesla museum. There's a collection of letters that he'd received on display there-- and what a collection of letters, most all of them congratulating him on his brilliance, genius, and large-scale contribution to the world. It must have been nice to open the mail if you were Tesla. One of my favorites is from Kelvin himself, signed only "Kelvin."
His letter-opener is on display, it's the size of a small sword. I can see now how people got killed with those things, as seems to frequently be the case in Agatha Christie novels. (Though I think I read about a recent letter-opener murder).
The website for the Nikola Tesla Museum is here. Scroll down on that page for an absolute must-see visual of what Europe looked like before and after Tesla (hover your cursor over the "Before Tesla" text).
The museum has friendly staff who give a guided tour (in Serbian and English) of some of the machines/models/gizmos, culminating in a very dramatic interactive exhibit that made me feel like I was in Frankenstein's lab.
